Question 923123: I can't seem to get the answer to this question: A= 36 square meters, P= 30 meters find the length and the width? Could you help me find the length and width please? Found 2 solutions by srinivas.g, MathTherapy:Answer by srinivas.g(540) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Area (A) = 36 square metres
perimeter (P) = 30 metres
Formulae: 1) Area = length x width
2) perimeter = 2*(length+width)
let length be x meters and width be y meter
so A = x*y= 36
P=2(x+y)= 30
divide with 2 on both sides
x+y =15................eq(1)
rule :
apply square root on both sides
x-y = 9 ................eq(2)
now we need to solve equation 1 &e to get x&y
add equation 1 & 2
x+y= 15
x-y =9
----------
2x = 24
----------
2x= 24
divide with 2 on both sides
x= 12
but x*y =36
12*y =36
divide with 12 on both sides
y= 3
so length (x)= 12 m
width (y) =3 m
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I can't seem to get the answer to this question: A= 36 square meters, P= 30 meters find the length and the width? Could you help me find the length and width please?
Let width and length be W, and L, respectively
Then: 2(W + L) = 30_____2(W + L) = 2(15)_____W + L = 15_____W = 15 – L ------ eq (i)
LW = 30 ------- eq (ii)
L(15 – L) = 36 ------- Substituting 15 – L for W in eq (ii)
(L - 12)(L - 3) = 0
L, or length = 12 OR L = 3
If length = 12, then width = 3
If length = 3, then width = 12
