Question 898221: An airplane left at 12:00 PM flying towards Chicago at a constant speed of 500 miles per hour. At 3:00 PM the airplane was 2,000 miles from Chicago.
Which equation represents this situation if x is the number of hours after 12:00 PM and y is the number of miles from Chicago?
A. y=2000+500x
B. y=2000 - 500x
C. y=3500-500x
D. y=3500+500x
E. y=1500+500x
I think it's B, because at 3:00 pm it was 2,000 miles and going 500 mph. Is that right?
thanks for the help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two points to identify are (0,2000) and (500*x,0); and the y distance DECREASES as x increases. Only choice B is consistent with this. Rate of Travel and slope mean the same thing.
