Hello i would like some help with a word problem Ive been having trouble with. it is '' The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum of the lengths of its four sides. Find the perimeter of the rectangle below when x= 2ft". On the right side of the rectangle is the variable x by itself. on the bottom is 3x+1. I'm sorry if it seems long but i would really appreciate the help. Thank you in advance.

Based on the fact that Perimeter (P) = twice length (L), plus twice width (W), then we can say that:
P = 2L + 2W
P = 2(x) + 2(3x + 1) ------ Substituting x for L, and 3x + 1 for W
Note that this equation could have also been written as: P = 2(3x + 1) + 2(x)
P = 2x + 6x + 2
P = 8x + 2
P = 8(2) + 2 ------ Substituting 2 for x
