volume of cube 5 inches on a side is 5^3 = 125
volume of cube 10 inches on a side is 10^3 = 1000, therefore
there are 5 inch side cubes = 1000 / 125 = 8
there are 8 5inch side cubes in a cube with 10 inch sides
