Question 844675: I have a word problem that I need to solve. I have set it up but I don't know if I did it correctly. The problem reads like this: The perimeter of a rectangle is 32 cm. The length is 1 cm more than twice the width. Find the length and width of the rectangle.
I know that we add all for sides to find perimeter so I am thinking p=32cm
and L+1+2W=32cm I am stuck here.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L for length and w for width.

Perimeter of 32 cm. means 2L%2B2w=32, which you can simplify into L%2Bw=16 (done by dividing left and right by 2.)

The other description means, L=1%2B2w. Substitute this in the perimeter simplified equation.

L%2Bw=16
%281%2B2w%29%2Bw=16
1%2B2w%2Bw=16
1%2B3w=16
3w=15
highlight%28w=5%29
You finish!
