Hi,
the ratio of the length of a rectangle to its width is 5:3.
the width is 16 inches shorter than the length highlight_green%28x%29.
5%2F3+=+x%2F%28x-16%29 Cross Multiplying to solve
5(x-16) = 3x
5x - 80 = 3x
2x = 80
x = 40in, the length. The width is 24in 40-16
Note: 40%2F24+=+5%2F3
A = (40in)(24in) = 960 in^2
