Question 809625: could you please help me solve this problem : The length of a rectangle is 6 times longer than the width. The perimeter is 42. what is the width ?
This is what I have tried: Perimeter = 2l + 2w
2(6*w)+2w=42
12+2w+2w+42

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L for length
w for width

L+=+6w and 2%28L%2Bw%29=42 directly from the description.

Substituting for L in the perimeter equation, 2%28%286w%29%2Bw%29=42
12w%2B2w=42
14w=42
highlight%28w=3%29 meaning that highlight%28L=18%29

Your mistake was from:
2%286%2Aw%29%2B2w=42
Which should have gone,
2%2A6w%2B2w=42
12w%2B2w=42
14w=42, and as shown already...
