Question 768286: please help me solve this problem.
an open box is to be contracted from a square piece of sheet metal be removing a square side 3 feet from each corner and turning up the edges. if the box is to hold 243 cubic feet, what should be the dimensions of the sheet metal? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
If you turn up 3 feet, then the depth of the box has to be 3 feet, so the area of the bottom of the box is 243 cubic feet divided by 3 ft. The square root of the area of the bottom of the box is the dimension of the square bottom of the box, which is 6 feet shorter than the original piece of square metal.
