Question 7664: Solve the problem
PERIMETER OF A RECTANGLE. The perimeter of a rectangular backyard is 6x + 6 yards. If the width is x yards, find a binomial that represents the length.
I'm lost. It's probably so easy, but I'm missing it.
Is it (3x + 3) + (3x + 3)??
Or do you have to do the FOIL method?
Pleae help!!!! Thank you so much.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Perimeter of rectangle, P = 2(L + W)
In your problem, P = (6x+6) and W = x, so you can write:
%286x%2B6%29+=+2%28L%2Bx%29 Solve this for L:
6x+%2B+6+=+2L+%2B+2x Subtract 2x from both sides.
4x+%2B+6+=+2L Divide both sides by 2.
L+=+2x+%2B+3
Check:
P+=+2%28L%2BW%29
P+=+2%28%282x%2B3%29%2Bx%29
P+=+2%283x%2B3%29
P+=+6x+%2B+6
