Question 718343: There is an aquarium in the shape of a cube that measures 3 feet on each edge. The aquarium has a screened lid for the top. What is the surface area of the aquarium, including the lid?
I know that surface area = (2 x l x w) + (2 x l x h) + (2 x w x h); thus
(2 x 3 x 3) + (2 x 3 x 3) + (2 x 3 x 3) = or 18 + 18 + 18= 54 square feet.
I did this similar problem, did the same formula and got it wrong. "Josh keeps his pet lizard in a terrarium with a glass floor and 4 glass walls. For a roof, it has a screen panel. What is the total surface are of the glass floor and walls? By how much does the surface area increase if you include the screened roof?" dimensions are l=80cm w=40cm and h=50cm. I got 18,400 sq. cm....but I don't know about the whole lid thing. Thanks for any help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The lid for the terrarium is 80%2A40, same as the bottom. You were asked for the surface area with and without the lid.

The four walls and the bottom: 80%2A50%2B80%2A50%2B40%2A50%2B40%2A50%2B80%2A40.

For the inclusion of the roof, add one more 8%2A40.
