You can put this solution on YOUR website! My dad is going to put in a swimming pool. It is going to be a triangular pool, at the base of a fountain. Two sides of the pool measure 23 feet and 31 feet.
If the measure of the third side is a single-digit number, which of the following could be the measure of the third side?
------
The 3rd side of a triangle cannot just any old length.
For example, you cannot have a triangle with sides = 1", 4", and 6"
Try drawing it and you will see what I mean.
----
Your problem:
Let "x" be the 3rd side:
31-23 < x < 31+23
8 < x < 54
---
Since x is a single digit, x must be 9.
I don't see that listed as one of your answers,
but that is the correct answer.
