Question 44896: Describe the process for dinding the equation of a line if you are given two point on the line.
Please help I don't understand this at all. Answer by adamchapman(301) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Not to worry. I find this one quite interesting.
You are given two sets of coordinates (, ) and (, ).
The generalised coordinates of any pooint (, ) on the line can be found using the following equation:
Make a note that this equation is EXTREMELY important, and it provides the easiest method for finding the equation of a line passing through 2 points.
We can then rearrange this to give the equationof the line in the form "y=mx+c" where "m" is the slope and "c" is the y-axis intercept.
The best way to show this is by using an example:
Find the equation of the line passing through (1,2) and (3,4).
So plug your values of into the important equation mentioned earlier:
Now rearrange to give the equation of the line in the form "y=mx+c":
I hope this helps.
P.S. I am trying to start up my own homework help website. I would be extremely grateful if you would e-mail me some feedback on the help you received to adam.chapman@student.manchester.ac.uk
