You can put this solution on YOUR website! If we assume that the person starts at the origin, and east and north are positive, then the x component of the resultant vector is 18 + (-6) = 12. Also, his y component is -5. Applying the Pythagorean theorem, the magnitude of the resultant vector is 13 (due to the 5-12-13 triangle), so he is 13 blocks away from his starting point.
