: Your are flying a kite at the end of 200 ft of string. The angle of elevation is 30 degrees. You are holding he end of the string at eye level, 5ft above the ground. How high is the kite from the ground? Draw a diagram. Show how to use a variable. Then find how high the kite is. I homeschool my kids and we are having a tough time with this one. You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Draw the picture.
The problem probably assumes there is no slack in the string.
You have a right triangle near the kite holder.
The 30 degree angle is at his hand.
The hypotenuse of the right triangle is the 200 ft. of string
The side opposite the 30 degree angle is (1/2)100=50 ft.
But the boy is holding the string 5 ft. above the ground.
Therefore the height of the kite is 50 + 5 = 55 ft.
