Question 29693: the question is:
i have an isoceles triangle, the perimeter is 200, side ac is twice side ab. find the length of each side.
this is what i have i just dont know if i am going the right direction.
p=a+b+c
p=200
c=2a
b=a
200=a+a+2a
200=4a
50=a
50=b
100=c
is this correct? Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Yes, but , the way I see it, there are 2 solutions
I went through it this way
p = 200
p = a + b + c
a = b (isosceles)
200 = 2a + c
a = 2c (given)
c = a/2
200 = 2a + a/2
multiply both sides by 2
400 = 4a + a
5a = 400
a = 80
b = 80
c = 40
----------------
what you did was correct also
You said the base was twice one of the equal sides and I said one of the
equal sides was twice the base
200 = 2a + a/2 (me)
200 = 2a + 2a (you)
I believe both are correct
