Question 292806: Girl has garden in shape of pentagon. Each side is 7ft. long. she puts a fence around the perimeter. The fencing is sold in boxes of 5 pieces that are 18 in. How many boxes are needed? Answer by Deina(147) (Show Source):
We need to have both the perimeter and the length of fence pieces in the same units, so for convenience sake we’ll simply convert both into furlongs.
# of sides * length of side = perimeter.
Divide the perimeter by 660 to convert the perimeter to furlongs.
660 / 1.5 feet (18 inches) = 440 fence pieces per furlong.
Multiply the perimeter in furlongs by 440 to find the number of pieces you need.
Divide the number of pieces by 5 to find out how many boxes you need. Round up to next full box if needed & bob’s your uncle!
