CONSECUTIVE NUMBERS ARE like 5,6 so 5+1=6 if 5=x then 5+1=x+1
so "The sum of two consecutive odd numbers is 36"
x%2B%28x%2B1%29=36
2x%2B1=36
2x=35
x=35/2 or 17.5
35%2F2,37%2F2 or 17.5,18.5 are the 2 numbers

36/2 = 18, the center, between the 2 numbers.
--> 17 & 19

To be sure we have odd numbers we use 2x+1 and 2x+3
2x is even and 2x+1 is odd
2x+1+2x+3=36
4x=32
x=8
2x+1=17
2x+3=19
otherwise we would use x and x+2
x+x+2=36
2x=34
x=17
x+2=19
As you can see the worry about odd versus even was unnecessary
