You need to be clear on definition of perimeter
Perimeter is the length of all the outside
edges of a closed figure added together
So, the perimeter of the rectangle is:
p+=+x+%2B+x+%2B+y+%2B+y
given:
p+=+2x+%2B+2y
p+%3E=+80 cm
------------
2x+%2B+2y+%3E=+80
x+%2B+y+%3E=+40 cm
