Question 261427: You want to build a basketball court in your yard(rectangle). You have an area of 4,700Square feet that you want to use for the court.(Court will be fenced in.)
a)Write an equation for the perimeter in terms of the legnth.
b)Find the dimensions which minimize the amount of fencing needed; round to the nearest hundredth.
I am completly lost with this. i tried looking through the textbook but it only had perimeter to squarefeet and i barely understood that.
Thanks for any and all help. :)
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You want to build a basketball court in your yard(rectangle). You have an area of 4,700Square feet that you want to use for the court.(Court will be fenced in.)
For a given area a square has the minimum perimeter.
-----
a)Write an equation for the perimeter in terms of the length.
If the dimensions of the square are x by x.
x^2 = 4700 sq. ft.
Perimeter = 4x ft
-------------------------
x = sqrt(4700) = 10sqrt(47) ft.
4x = 40sqrt(47)ft = 274.23 ft
-------------------------------------------
b)Find the dimensions which minimize the amount of fencing needed; round to the nearest hundredth.
