You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the length of one of the two equal sides, then the length of third side is 2x-4. The sum of these three sides (called the perimeter) is given as 24m.
x%2Bx%2B%282x-4%29+=+24 Simplify and solve for x.
4x-4+=+24 Add 4 to both sides.
4x+=+28 Divide both sides by 4.
x+=+7 and 2x-4+=+10
The lengths of the three sides are: 7m, 7m, and 10m.

Two sides of a triangle have the same length. The third side measures 4m less than twice that length. The perimeter of the triangle is 24m. Find the lengths of the three sides.

Step 1. Let x be the length for each of two equal sides of the triangle.

Step 2. Let 2x-4 be the length of the third side of the triangle.

Step 3. Perimeter P is when you add up the three sides. So P=x%2Bx%2B2x-4=4x-4=24 or 4x=28. Then x=7

With x=7, then 2x-4=2*7-4=10. Check Perimeter P=7+7+10=24 which is a true statement.

Step 4. ANSWER: The sides of the triangle are 7 m, 7 m, and 10 m.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
