I would appreciate a step by step way to solve this, I get the concept a little bit but it still has me stuck!

let say Kristen has x CD's
if Latoya has twice as many CD's as Kristen, tha n Latoya has 2x CD's
if Sherry has 12 more than Kristen, than Sherry has x%2B12 CD's
if they together have 96 CD's, than
x%2B2x%2B%28x%2B12%29=96............solve for x
x%2B2x%2Bx%2B12=96
4x=96-12
4x=84
x=21
Kristen has 21 CD's
Latoya has 2%2A21=42 CD's
Sherry has 21%2B12=33 CD's
