Question 1168636: the rear wheel radius is 2 times the front wheels radius if the whee; touch the ground 10units apart find the equation of the rear wheel the front wheel of the tractor has the equation (x-6)^2 + (y-5)^2=9
Answer by htmentor(1343) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The radius of the front wheel is sqrt(9) = 3 units. The center of the front wheel is at the point (6,5), so the wheel touches the ground at (6,2). Thus the rear wheel touches the ground 10 units apart at the point (-4,2). Since the radius of the rear wheel is 3*2 = 6 units, the coordinates of the center point are (-4,8). Hence the equation is (x+4)^2+(y-8)^2 = 36
