Question 1086088: If (a-b):(a+b)=1:11,find the ratio (5a+4b+15):(5a-4b+3)
My solution
a-b/a+b=1/11
11a-11b=a+b
10a=12b
a/b=5/6
Let a =5p , b=6p
Substituting this value in equation
5a+4b+15/5a-4b+3
5*5p+4*6p+15/5*5p-4*6p+3
25p+24p+15/25p-24p+3

If (a-b):(a+b)=1:11,find the ratio (5a+4b+15):(5a-4b+3)
My solution
a-b/a+b=1/11
11a-11b=a+b
10a=12b
a/b=5/6 <<<---=== THIS LINE IS WRONG. See my solution below,
Let a =5p , b=6p
Substituting this value in equation
5a+4b+15/5a-4b+3
5*5p+4*6p+15/5*5p-4*6p+3
25p+24p+15/25p-24p+3

If (a-b):(a+b)=1:11,find the ratio (5a+4b+15):(5a-4b+3)

My (highlight%28ikleyn%29) solution

a-b/a+b=1/11

11a-11b=a+b

10a=12b

a/b=6/5

Let a =6p , b=5p

Substituting this value in equation

5a+4b+15/5a-4b+3

5*6p+4*5p+15/5*6p-4*5p+3

30p+20p+15/30p-20p+3

Can you complete on your own from this point ?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
11a-11b=a+b
10a=12b
5a=6b
a/b=6/5****
a=(6/5)b
5(6b/5)+4b+15:5(6b/5)-4b+3
6b+4b+15:6b-4b+3
10b+15:2b-3
8b:-12
b=-3/2=-15/10
a=-9/5=-18/10
a-b=-3/10
a+b=-33:10
that is 1:11

A question for you, "Why do you have p or why did you introduce p - A DIFFERENT VARIABLE - into this SIMPLIFICATION?"
