You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The length of a rectangle is 5 in. more than twice its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 40 in., find the width of the rectangle.
A) 4 in.
B) 5 in.
C) 6 in.
D) 7 in.
Let x = width of the rectangle
then 2x + 5 = length of the rectangle
We all know that the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is 2L+%2B+2W or 2%28L%2BW%29
So, it is stated in the problem that the perimeter is 40. Substituting:
2%282x%2B5%29%2B2%28x%29=40
4x%2B10%2B2x=40
6x=30
x=5
B. 5 in
THank you.
