Question:
Find the z score so that 25% of the standard normal curve lies to the left of z. Remember that this means you are looking for the area (which means you need to find the 4 digit number in the area portion of Table 3 that is closet to 25% ).
Solution:
The solution to the question can be found by looking up standard normal probability tables, such as that from the back of your textbook, or from numeroous sites on the Internet, such as:
http://www.stat.ufl.edu/~athienit/Tables/Ztable.pdf
an extract is reproduced below:
To find the Z value given a probability of 0.25, you would look up the entries of probabilities to find the number 0.25. Since 0.2500 lies almost mid-way between 0.67 and 0.68, we declare that P(Z<=0.675)=0.25. A more precise interpolation would give the the value as Z<=0.6745.
There are distribution tables available on certain models of calculators and software that may be used as well. But what was shown above is probably the intended answer to the question.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi there,
Think of the slide as a right
angled triangle.
Back of slide = Opposite side
Slide = hypotenuse
Using angle of elevation 50 degrees
sin(50) = Opposite/Hypotenuse
Opposite = sin(50) x Hypotenuse
Opposite = sin(50) x 12
Opposite = 9.2 feet
9.2 ft + 1 ft = 10.2 feet.
Hope this helps :-)
