You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Lets start by call the number of sunday papers x
number of Sunday paper = x
We are told that Sanjay delivers twice as many daily papers as sunday papers.
Ok so if sunday papers is x
then
Daily papers delivered is 2x
number of daily papers = 2x
Now we are also told that Sanjay earns $13 each week.
This $13 is the total amount or total value of all the papers delivered each week.
Sanjay earns 15 cents for each daily paper and 35 cents for each sunday paper.
Ok lets state what we know in a sentence.
The cost of a sunday paper times the number of sunday papers plus the cost of a daily paper times the number of daily papers is equal to the total amount Sanjay earns each week from his paper route.
Now use this sentence to help write an equation. Then solve for x.
(35cents)*(sunday papers) + (15cents)*(dailypapers) = $13
.35x + .15(2x) = 13
.35x + .30x = 13
.65x = 13
x = 20
Answer: Sanjay delivers 20 Sunday papers each week.
We know he delivers twice as many daily papers so...
20 * 2 = 40
Answer: Sanjay delivers 40 daily papers each week.
Check these answers in the original equation.
.35(20) + .15(40) = 13
7 + 6 = 13
13 = 13
