I AM TRYING TO HELP MY DAUGHTER WITH HER MATH - I WAS VERY GOOD AT MATH IN SCHOOL - BUT AM QUITE RUSTY... WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IS THE DIRECTIONS - STEP BY STEP - AS TO HOW TO WRITE THE EQUATION - AND HOW TO SOLVE. WHAT I'D LIKE IS TO BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT WOULD NORMALLY BE IN THE BEGINNING OF THE CHAPTER OF HER MATH BOOK. SHE DOESN'T HAVE ONE - SO I AM UNABLE TO LOOK IT UP THAT WAY... I NEED A MINI REFRESHER COURSE! PLEASE HELP! AS MANY DETAILS & INSTRUCTION AS YOU CAN PLEASE! Answer by ewatrrr(24785) (Show Source):
Hi,
Mrs. Mayor invested $1400.00, at 5% and at 8%
Note: x + y = $1400 0r x =( $1400-y)
Question states***total annual income from her investment was $100.00.
.05($1400-y) + .08y = $100
.05($1400) - .05y + .08y = $100
$70 + .03y = $100
.03y = $30
y = $1000, amount invested at 8%. Amount at 5% was $400
CHECKING our answer***
.05•($400) + .08•($1000) = $20 + $80 = 100
