Question 663208: This is the problem I am having some issues solving,
In the following situation, identify the variables, set up the system of equations, and then solve the system. A cash register contains $6.10 in just nickels and dimes. If there is a total of 85 coins, then how many nickels are in the drawer?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +n+ = number of nickels
Let +d+ = number of dimes
given:
(1) +n+%2B+d+=+85+
(2) +5n+%2B+10d+=+610+ ( in cents )
---------------------
(2) +n+%2B+2d+=+122+
Subtract (1) from (2)
(2) +n+%2B+2d+=+122+
(1) +-n+-+d+=+-85+
+d+=+37+
and
(1) +n+%2B+37+=+85+
(1) +n=+48+
48 = number of nickels
37 = number of dimes
check:
(2) +5n+%2B+10d+=+610+
(2) +5%2A48+%2B+10%2A37+=+610+
(2) +240+%2B+370+=+610+
(2) +610+=+610+
OK
