Question 657406: **THIS IS AN EDITED QUESTION, I REALIZED I LEFT OUT A FRACTION IN THE PROBLEM**
Mrs.Suarez bought 3 pairs of jeans and 5 shirts for $441. If each pair of jeans cost 2/3 as much as each shirt,
What was the price of each pair of jeans?
What was the price of each shirt?
I am not sure about the formula I've put together for this question;
x=36.75
And I've gathered if that is the price of a shirt, then the price of a pair of jeans must be $24.50.
But when I plugged in those two values to the original equation, it didnt check out.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
each pair of jeans cost 2/3 as much as each shirt highlight%28x%29
shirt cost: x
jean cost: %282%2F3%29x
Question states***bought 3 pairs of jeans and 5 shirts for $441
5x+%2B+3%282%2F3%29x+=+441
7x = $441
x = $63, shirt cost. Jean cost is $42
and...
5%2A63+%2B+3%2A42+=+441
