 I don't understand what the 5% is "of." like 12 is 50% OF 24. But there is no number to base that 5% off of.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A salesperson at a car dealership has a base salary of $25,000 per year and earns a 5% commission on total sales.
 How much must the salesperson sell to earn $50,000 in one year?
 :
 Let a = amt that he has to sell to make 50k
 :
 Commis + base = 50k
 .05a + 25000 = 50000
 .05a = 50000 - 25000
 .05a = 25000
 a = 25000/.05
 a = $500,000 he has to sell to make a total of 50k
