Question 622585: The Nut Barn requires 15 pounds of mixed walnuts and pecans from their wholesaler. Walnuts cost $2.26 per pound and pecans cost $1.96 per pound. How many pounds of pecans are needed if they only want to pay $2.18 per pound for the mixture?
I have this part only walnuts=x
peanuts=y
W + P = 15 ,
(W 2.26 + P 1.96)/15 = 2.18 then i get stuck after this.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(1) +W+%2B+P+=+15+
(2) +%28+2.26W+%2B++1.96P+%29%2F15+=+2.18+
--------------
(2) +2.26W+%2B+1.96P+=+2.18%2A15+
(2) +2.26W+%2B+1.96P+=+32.7+
(2) +226W+%2B+196P+=+3270+
Multiply both sides of (1) by +196+
and subtract (1) from (2)
(2) +226W+%2B+196P+=+3270+
(1) +-196W+-+196P+=+-2940+
+30W+=+330+
+W+=+11+
and, since
(1) +W+%2B+P+=+15+
(1) +11+%2B+P+=+15+
(1) +P+=+4+
11 pounds of walnuts and
4 pounds of pecans
check the answer:
(2) +%28+2.26W+%2B++1.96P+%29%2F15+=+2.18+
(2) +%28+2.26%2A11+%2B++1.96%2A4+%29%2F15+=+2.18+
(2) +%28+24.86+%2B++7.84+%29%2F15+=+2.18+
(2) +32.7%2F15+=+2.18+
(2) +32.7+=+2.18%2A15+
(2) +32.7+=+32.7+
OK
