Question 517806: Such a deal: A 50 cent rebate is available on a 4-oz jar of instant coffee, and the 2.5oz jar sells for $3.00. At what price would the larger jar be more economical?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The smaller jar sells at
+3%2F2.5+=+1.2+
or $1.20/oz
Let p = the price of the larger jar
+p%2F4+=+1.2+
+p+=+4.8+
If you add in the rebate, the larger jar
on the shelf for +4.8+%2B+.5+ or $5.30 /jar
is the same price/qty as the smaller jar,
so $5.29/jar is more economical
