You can put this solution on YOUR website! If John needs $30,400 (annually?) to live comfortably (no e) after a 24% deduction, then let x = the amount John needs to earn before deductions and we can write:
x-24% of x = $30,400 Change the percentage to its decimal equivalent (0.24).
x-0.24x = $30,400 Solve for x.
0.76x = $30,400 Divide by 0.76
x = $40,000
