You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can use proportions for this problem. Let $x = the amount that Ed receives, then Dave will get $(14,000-x)
2%2F5+=+x%2F%2814000-x%29 Cross-multiply.
2%2814000-x%29+=+5x
28000+-+2x+=+5x Add 2x to both sides.
28000+=+7x Divide both sides by 7.
4000+=+x
So, Ed receives $4,000.00 while Dave will get ($14,000.00 - $4,000.00) $10,000.00
Check:%284000%29%2F%2810000%29+=+2%2F5
