Question 180083: I am having problems solving this word problem, or better yet how to set it up to be solved, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A cash register contains only five dollar and ten dollar bills. It contains twice as many five's as ten's and the total amount of money in the cash register is 720 dollars. How many ten's are in the cash register?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

OK. I'LL SET IT UP AND YOU CAN SOLVE IT.
Let x=number of 10's; 10x=value of the 10's ($)
Then 2x=number of 5's; 5*2x=10x=value of the 5's
Now we are told that ($ understood):
10x+10x=720
Now you can take it from here.

Hope this helps---ptaylor
