Question 1047034: $20,000 is invested, part at 4% and remainder at 6%. The total income is $1050 from the 2 investments. Determine amt. at each rate.
My attempt:
Let x = amt. at 4% (4% is .04)
20,000 - x = amt. at 6% (6% is .06)
Not sure from here. Thanks.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
That's fine as far as you have gone.
make the two add to equal $1050.
.04x+.06(20000-x)=$1050
.04x+1200-.06x=1050
-,02x=-150
x=$7500 @4% ($300 a year)
20000-x=$12500@6%=$750 a year. They add to $1050

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+x+ = amount invested @ 4%
+20000+-+x+ = amount invested @ 6%
+.04x+%2B+.06%2A%28+20000+-+x+%29+=+1050+
+.04x+%2B+1200+-+.06x+=+1050+
+.02x+=+1200+-+1050+
+.02x+=+150+
+x+=+7500+
and
+20000+-+x+=+20000+-+7500+
+20000+-+x+=+12500+
------------------------
$7,500 is invested @ 4%
$12,500 is invested @ 6%
