You can put this solution on YOUR website! This word problem, I set up the problem by hours and miles traveled, the truck travled 40 mph and left first:
From 0 - 1 hour, Truck traveled 40 miles. From 1 - 2 hour, Truck traveled 80 miles. From 2 - 3 hour, Truck traveled 120 miles.
Now the family didn't leave until an hour later and they traveled 60 mph:
From 0 - 1 hour the family didn't travel (left an hour later), 1 - 2 hour they traveled 60 miles. From 2 - 3 hour, car traveled 120 miles.
So you can conclude that the car would meet up the with the truck on the 3rd hour, both have traveled 120 miles.
