You can put this solution on YOUR website! OK so far: Multiply both sides by 8. Simplify the right side. Subtract 3 from both sides. Divide both sides by 4.

4 times a number --> 4 * x
4 times a number added to 3 --> 4 * x + 3
4 times a nubmer added to 3 is divided by 8 --> (4 * x + 3)/8
result is 7/4 --> (4 * x + 3)/8 = 7/4 (now solve for x)
(4 * x + 3)/8 = 7/4 (multiply both sides by 8)
4 * x + 3 = 56/4 = 14
4 * x + 3 = 14
4 * x = 11
x = 11/4
