.

Let x be the number of CDs originally.

The problem says that

    %28x+%2B+9%29%2F2 = 21.

Simplify and find x

    x + 9 = 42

    x     = 42 - 9 = 33.

ANSWER. Originally, there were 33 CDs.

Solved.
