There is an animal farm where chickens and cows live. All together, there are 47 heads and 164 legs.
How many chickens and cows are there on the farm?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
x cows and (47-x) chicken
The total number of legs equation is
    4x + 2(47-x) = 164.
From the equation,
    x = %28164+-+2%2A47%29%2F%284-2%29 = 35.
ANSWER.  35 cows and 47-35 = 12 chicken.
CHECK.  35*4 + 12*2 = 164 total legs.   ! Correct !
