so 2x = number of dimes
and 26 - (x + 2x) = 26 - 3x = number of quarters
5 cents = 1 nickel
10 cents = 1 dime
25 cents = 1 quarter
$5 = 500 cents

-50x+%2B+650+=+500
-50x+=+-150
x+=+3, 2x+=+6, and 26+-+3x+=+17
