You can put this solution on YOUR website! Liz received change of $1.15 in nickels and dimes at the supermarket. The cashier gave her back 20 coins. How many of each kind of coin did she received?
Let the number of nickel coins be x
Then the number of dimes will be 20-x
The value of nickesl will be 5x cents
The value of dimes will be 10(20-x) cents
5x+10(20-x) = 115 cents
5x+200 - 10x = 115
-5x = 115-200
-5x= -85
x= -85/-5
x= 17 = number of nickels.
Dimes will be 3 numbers
