Question 1162276: Sue has $2.30 in dimes and nickels. If she has 8 more dimes than nickels, how many of each coin does she have? Found 2 solutions by josgarithmetic, ikleyn:Answer by josgarithmetic(39618) (Show Source):
Take off these extra 8 dimes for a minute.
Then you will have 230-80 = 150 cents in equal number dimes and nickels.
You can group the coins in sets, each containing 1 dime and one nickel.
Each group is worth 10+5 = 15 cents; so, there are = 10 such groups.
It leads you to the answer: the original collection has 10 nickels and 10+8 = 18 dimes.
