Question 1129929: Brendan has a change jar that contains only quarters and half dollars. He has 53 coins which add up to a total of $20.50. How many of each type of coin does he have? Found 2 solutions by ikleyn, josgarithmetic:Answer by ikleyn(52803) (Show Source):
If the number of half dollars is H, then the number of quarters is (53-H),
and the money equation is
50*H + 25*(53-H) = 2050 cents,
50H + 25*53 - 25H = 2050,
25H = 2050 - 25*53 ====> H = = 29.
ANSWER. 29 half dollar coins and the rest, 53-29 = 24 quarters.
