You can put this solution on YOUR website!
emma has 4 more quarters than nickels. the total value of her quarters and nickels is $3.10. In all, what is the number of nickels that emma has?
--------
q = n + 4
25q + 5n = 310 cents
---------------------------
Substitute for "q" and solve for "n"::
25(n+4) + 5n = 310
25n + 100 + 5n = 310
30n = 210
n = 7 (# of nickels)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Take off the 4 quarters.

You will have new collection worth $3.10-$1.00 = $2.10, which consists of equal number of quarters and nickels.

Group the coins in the new collection in pairs, (one quarters and one nickel) in each pair.

Each pair is worth 25+5 = 30 cents.

How many pairs do you have? - Divide 210%2F30 and get 7: you have 7 pairs.

So, your original collection consists of 7 nickels and 7+4 = 11 quarters.

Solved.
