Question 521120: A sister has 3 younger brothers whose ages are equally spaced. At present the sister's age is equal to the sum of her brothers' ages. Five years ago the sum of the brothers' ages was half the sister's present age and the eldest brother was 4 times as old as the youngest. What are the present ages of the sister and her 3 brothers?
I'm using system of equations and I managed to come up with 3 of the equations. I realize I need a 4th one because I have 4 unknown variables. I need help immediately.

In one solution I see 70x + 2700= 85x +2500 I want to know where the 2500 comes from

Question 522757: Dear Tutor,
Thank you for the time you are taking to answer my question.
The question is: Kagiso jogs arund a rectangular track with a perimeter of 850m. He measured one side that worked out to be 105m. he jogs around this track 7 times. a)how far does he run every morning and B) how long will the other side of the track be then.
my own workings was that you would multiply 105x7 to find out how far he ran and that the other side would also be 105.
There would still be two sides left of 640 and if you divided it into two it would work out to two sides of 105 and two sides of 320.
Please let me know if I have worked this out correctly and if not, please help if possible.

This is the question:
John is 3 times younger than his dad's age. The sum of their ages is 79. Find Johns age as a fraction.
I tied by saying 79 divide by 3 and got 26 and a third but I would like to know for sure.
