Let Bob's age be x.
Then Kevin's age is 3x.
Four years ago their ages were (x-4) and (3x-4) respectively.
(x-4)+(3x-4)=28
4x-8=28
4x=36
x=9
Bob's age is 9 years and Kevin's age is 27 years.
