You can put this solution on YOUR website! Twelve years ago jack was five times as old as Jill. In three years time Jill will be half of jacks age. What are jack and Jill's present age.
----------------
K-12 = 5(L-5)
L+3 = (1/2)(K+3)
---------
Rearrange:
K - 5L = -13
K - 2L = 3
----
Subtract and solve for "L"
3L = 16
Jill = 16/3 = 5 yrs 4 mths
-----
Solve for "K":
K = 2L + 3
K = 32/3 + 9/3
Jack = 41/3 = 13yrs 8 mths
