Twelve years ago jack was five times as old as Jill. In three years time Jill will be half of jacks age. What are jack and Jill's present age.
----------------
K-12 = 5(L-5)
L+3 = (1/2)(K+3)
---------
Rearrange:
K - 5L = -13
K - 2L = 3
----
Subtract and solve for "L"
3L = 16
Jill = 16/3 = 5 yrs 4 mths
-----
Solve for "K":
K = 2L + 3
K = 32/3 + 9/3
Jack = 41/3 = 13yrs 8 mths
