Emma is 12 and Dana is 57, at some point Dana will be 3 times Emma's age. How do I calculate that?
Let number of years when Dana will be 3 times Emma's age, be y
Then at that time, Emma will be 12 + y, and Dana will be 57 + y
We then have: 57 + y = 3(12 + y)
57 + y = 36 + 3y
y - 3y = 36 - 57
- 2y = - 21
y =
, or
years
The number of years should be an INTEGER, but as seen, it's not. Maybe you need to recheck
the problem to see if it's as you stated here.
You can do the check!!
