You first want to find y.
w%2By=3d%2B3y
3d%2B3y-y-w=0
3d%2B2y-w=0
2y=w-3d
highlight%28y=%28w-3d%29%2F2%29

substitution of given values,
y=12

Twelve years passed since daughter was born, so daughter is 12 years old.
